So why a blog about mermaids and sea-related things?
I have loved mermaids since I was a mere tadpole. I read Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid when I was ten years old and was completely devastated. It was the first fairy tale I ever read where the heroine failed. Epically. Not only did she not win her prince, she gave up more than her fishtail and her family to ensure his happiness—she gave her life. Deep, I know.
Alas, I digressed. I grew up. Ariel and Flounder and Sebastian healed my wounded heart. Today, my love for mermaids has come full circle. I am currently writing a Young Adult novel about mermaids and sirens.
I feel that mermaids are coming into a new renaissance. They may or may not be the new Vampire, but I have a feeling, over the next decade, they are going to make a big splash in pop culture. (Pun intended.)
