Designer Stephanie Carbone is the brainchild behind Space Mermaid, a Los Angeles-based jewelry company with the most kick-ass name ever. She loves the sea and all its creatures, including the mythical ones like mermaids. Think I’m lying? Stephanie has entire section on mermaid jewelry. Yes, it is like heaven, only better. I’ve seen my fair share of scaly dresses this season. The shell-shaped clutches and run-of-the-mill anchor necklaces are starting to bring the eye rolls. Just when I think I’ve seen it all, Refinery 29 profiles some amazing jewelry creations by Motley, a Washington D.C. based design collective. The Lure Collection features necklaces made with a material I never thought could look so beautiful, so perfect for modern day mermaids—fishing line.

Here we have Sea of Love from Vogue Japan May 2012. These shots are my least favorite. They lack something I can't quite put my finger on. I'm not surprised that all of these spreads feature models of European decent—really, I'm not—but I was hoping for some diversity. The UK and Australian issues of Vogue feature women of color this May, which is awesome, but those lovely ladies aren't modeling mermaid frocks. (Sad face.)
