The funny thing about blogging is that you're talking to everyone and no one at all, so when people are kind enough to drop me a line, it usually takes me a minute to get over the shock. Really? You care? Someone actually cares?! Charity Daw is one such person who reached out to me and I'm super happy that she did! Charity Daw is an L.A. based singer, songwriter, painter, milliner, goddess, gadabout, and super-freakin-awesome-fashionista with a love for mermaidy things. (Yeah, she's all that and a bag of sea salt chips.) Her hats are gorgeous, intricate conffections exploding with coral and pearls. Her paintings are as bold and feminine as she is, often depicting mermaids and ladies who evoke the spirit of the sea. This post really does her no justice. I encourage you all to swim over to her website or Etsy page and explore her whimsical world. It's pretty and glittery, and totally for modern-day mermaids.

when angels get fins instead of wings...

Victoria's Secret's annual fashion show won't air until November 29th, mere days after I've consumed Adriana Lima's body weight in Thanksgiving gravy, mind you, but pictures are all over the internets. So let's enjoy and try not to hate ourselves in the process, shall we? Yes, we shall. This year the angels go aquatic donning mermaid-inspired lingerie with accents of nixies and fairies. Many of the wings had a seashell look to them. Orlando Bloom's baby-mama, Miranda Kerr, wore this year's fantasy bra, a 2.5 million-dollar pearl and diamond-encrusted "Treasure". On the runway, the treasure bra was paired with a stunning shell contraption. It was all very Botticelli. My favorite piece, out of everything, was the runway.  Seriously, I wish my house was carpeted in wall-to-wall glitter.

Who's that fabulous Little Mermaid?

It's Project Runway Alum Christian Siriano!

Back in 2009, fashion designer, Christian Siriano, dressed up as Ariel from the Little Mermaid for Halloween. He even had his Prince Eric, his boyfriend at the time. The Wide-Eyed, Legless didn't exist back then, but with MerQueens.com on the horizon, I immediately thought of this awesome mermaid costume. Boys in drag are awesome. Boys in mermaid drag are ten times more awesome, and Christian did it perfectly. He did it so well that even Martha Stewart took notice this year and brought him on her show for her annual Halloween special. Christian showed Martha and the people how to make their own fierce mermaid costume. Bravo Christian, bravo! (Punn intended!)
