So in love with this wedding package created by designer Austin Petito for his own wedding. It's the perfect little package to get everybody psyched for a high seas wedding. Oh, and did you see the mermaid bottle opener?! And the custom beer coasters?!! Epic win. See more (and larger) shots over at Tight Slice.
Love, love, love, these jars and mugs by UK ceramic artist, Belen Gomez titled “The Sailor’s Return” and “The Mermaid’s Rest”. Gomez is based out of Brighton, a popular seaside town I’ve imagined myself packing up and moving to. You can purchase these ceramics as well as that cat print on her website.
A Kraken is a ginormous mythological sea monster said to lurk 3,000 feet below sea level near Norway. Next to sharks, anglerfish, and pissed-off mermaids, Krakens are about as bad-ass as it gets under the sea. Imagine a squid/octopus like thing the size of the Titanic, or perhaps a small island depending on who's telling the tale, well, just imagine that and know you're in trouble. Krakens have been brought to life in movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and in that awful remake of Clash of the Titans where Zeus knew how to annihilate a civilization quickly with, yeah, you guessed it—the Kraken. When it comes to spiced rums you better go big or go home, I suppose, which is why I love Kraken Rum. (Sorry, Captain Morgan) It's sort of perfect, really, from the bottle to the swag. (I'm a sucker for a theme, I know.)
Since I'm in the midst of playing catch-up from being on vacation, here's a cool fashion campaign from Cutler and Gross eyewear I totally missed. The Mermaid and The Officer is their spring and summer collection for 2011, and it features glamorous specs inspired by sirens and the sailors who fall in love with them. For mermaids, there are fishnet print glasses, and for their doomed lovers, there are ice blue acrylics and Mad Men style tortoiseshell frames. See the entire collection here (complete with harbor soundtrack). How pretty are these pictures? Total eye candy.
Jim Tierney is a Brooklyn based designer who graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. It was there he created this amazing book art for Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. If you've read my about page you'll know that me and Jules have something in common, so I'm always on the look out for cool Jules swag. Like this. Jim created this masterpiece for his senior thesis show, along with designs for other Verne classics. See them all here.
Jonathan Adler's Utopia pottery collection has a Noah's Ark meets Russian nesting dolls vibe to it that's retro enough to be ultra modern. Best of all, there are three mermaid creations in the collection including a bucket with a mermaid on one side and a sailor on the other, a mermaid/sailor vase, and a cute (and affordable) mermaid creamer. Her tail is the handle. That Adler, he's so clever.
